The InCT5 Story

Like minded people get together..

..and pool ideas.

InCT5 has been set up as a collaborative excercise by many of the existing Whitstable web site authors. It is not intended to replicate any of the diverse nature of their sites, but to provide a central resource to jointly develop new ideas for the benefit of the local community by using the internet both as a medium and a tool.

The subsequent structure of InCT5 will follow few restraints except for the overiding emphasis that it should, through its projects, produce something that both inspires and empowers local people to feel an integral part of their community.

The projects themselves should also result in something that is of tangible benefit to Whitstable. As an example the first two projects were related to the 2006 Whitstable Oyster Festival. This festival is of enormous importance to the town in terms of putting it on the map, promotion that lasts through the year and the subsequent income from visitors. The organisation of the festival is going through a process of evolution which could result in its control being brought back to Whitstable itself.

Project 1 - WOF2006 Website

In producing WOF2006 as an alternative to the official festival website we have shown that the capability and desire are evident within the town. It is hoped that the feedback to this site from visitors and residents will also provide information that will form the basis of the programme for next year's festival.

Project 2 - Images of Whitstable

This project was a joint effort by the Whitstable webmasters to capture, catalogue and put on-line pictures from events during the Whitstable Oyster Festival 2006 by the end of the day that they are held on.

The challenge was awesome and the competition for the best shots guaranteed the quality of the images, particularly as visitors and residents could send in their own pictures for inclusion. The benefits gained in the short time added an extra zest to the festival, almost as an extra event on its own. In the long term the collection of original images were used for exhibitions and other for bodies to use them to the benefit of the town. The pre-festival use of such previously donated images has already assisted in the promotion of the town, on the web, in newspapers and glossy periodicals. Back to the top

Further Projects

A year later InCT5 had also collected images of WOF2007, Whitstable Carnival, Mayday and other Whitstable Events. All of these images were archived and distributed amogst those who could use them to the benefit of the town.

The newly formed Whitstable Oyster Festival Association was supported with the provision of a web site and were some local charitable associations

Disaster struck when the InCT5.net web space provider vanished overnight along with the content and URL. New UK web secure web space was sourced along with the new name of InCT5.co.uk and a temporary position was held whilst work went on in the background with the latest web technology.

On February 1st 2008 the benefits of this were first realised when Oystertown.net moved in as the first section of the new InCT5.

More is yet to be revealed....
